A Nigerian facebook user by the name “Ifeatext ifea” has taken to the platform to insinuate that the current ban on the importation of rice and the ongoing closure of the land borders to quell smuggling was only intended to affect the southern part of the country while markets in the north stays flooded with foreign rice.
He attached along with the post a picture of stacked bags of foreign rice in a bid to buttress his claim. In his own words:
” BORDER CLOSURE: MY FINDINGS IN SOKOTO YESTERDAY
Nigerians if you visit SOKOTO right now foreign rice are everywhere in the market hardly will you see people eating or buying the local rice. No shop in sokoto market without foreign rice. Please Nigerian journalist should come and investigate this if I'm lying let me be send to jail. A bag of foreign rice in sokoto is #16000 while in south is #30000.
NIGERIANS MY QUESTION IS HOW DID THOSE RICE ENTER SOKOTO?
Buhari has finished us! “
The post attracted comments from users who seem to agree with him as one commenter even noted that the banned item is still very cheap in the north at the cost of #13,500 per bag while in the south it is around 35,000....so what are your thoughts on this?
